GEMS Association International is a group of alumni of G.S.V.M. Medical college, Kanpur . The first batch of undergraduates and postgraduates students passed out together in 1960. At this time an' Old boys ' association came into existence. However the association became fully active in 1972. Dr. Naim Hamid played a very active role in reviving this association. Dr. M.K. Govil was the first President of the revived association. Dr. K.B. Verma & Dr. A.K. Srivastava were first Treasurer and Secretary respectively. Dr. Sahai was elected President in 1983 and worked very hard to expand the horizons. The female ex- students of this college were averse to the name 'old boys'. They even decided not to join it unless the name was changed. The name GEMS came into existence in 1984. Dr. Ravindra Sinha (of 1962- batch) gave the immortal name GEMS. He explained GEMS like this- G stands for G.S.V.M, E stands for Ex, MS stands for Medicos.Gems Association would mean GSVM Ex Medicos Association.
